| ![]() •Pyschologist Clinical Asst. Professor, WSU John A. Dooley, Ph.D. Dr. Dooley is a clinical psychologist specializing in the treatment of chronic pain. He has consulted at the University Pain Clinic since the clinic first developed. Prior to that he served as the Chief Psychologist and then, for fourteen years, as the Director of the Gertrude Levin Pain Center, a multidisciplinary chronic pain program which was located at the Detroit Medical Center. Dr. Dooley has over 25 years of experience working with individuals suffering from chronic pain. His work focuses on assisting pain sufferers, as well as their families, cope with pain and the effects of pain in their lives. He has particular interest in the mechanisms chronic pain and illness exert in causing emotional difficulties, as well as the extent to which depression and anxiety can complicate coping. He also does cognitive-behavioral therapy, behavior modification, coping skills training, relaxation and stress management techniques, and hypnosis. Dr. Dooley earned his doctorate in clinical psychology from Wayne State University. He is a recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship and studied at the Freie Universität in Berlin, Germany. He is on the clinical faculty of the Wayne State University School of Medicine, holding dual appointments as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences and as an Assistant Professor, FTA in the Department of Anesthesiology. Dr. Dooley has been active in both research and teaching regarding psychological factors associated with pain and coping. He has co-authored several articles and serves as a reviewer for psychological journals.In addition to English, Dr. Dooley is fluent in German. |
